ten

Dear Andrew,

You my dear, are 10. Two digits, both hands, the age I was when I really have most of my first memories. I remember bits and pieces before ten, but I remember my friends, my classroom, what I wanted to be when I grew up, how I felt about little kids, how much I loved my dog ... you get the point. I also remember feeling plenty old enough to know what I was doing. That wasn't true of course, because at ten you really are still very young (sorry, it's true), but I will try hard to remember that you probably feel like you've got life figured out for the most part, and let you figure things out on your own more often. Although thankfully, you don't mind asking me for help/suggestions, so I think we're good there.

This year is all about baseball for you. You decided it was your favorite sport, and then right around that same time we stumbled upon an invitation to a select team and basically accidentally signed you up. It all just sort of happened and there you were - pretty much the happiest kid in the world. : ) I'm glad it worked out. And I love that one of the first things you said to Mason had to do with wondering what sport he'll love when he turns ten.

You continue to be smart, kind, and funny. And you're still in love with all things sports. You want to be perfect at everything you do (if I haven't mentioned it before, sorry... you got that from me) and you feel proud when people catch you doing a good job.

I hope you have a wonderful year full of good friends, fun adventures, and still thinking your mom is cool. I hope you keep paying attention to what makes you happy and fill your life up with that stuff.

I love you more,
~ mom
