nine

For some reason I'm okay with nine. I actually think it's because you've been telling me you're almost ten for the last few months (that's how old we said we think you need to be to have a phone so you like to remind me that it's not very far away). So the fact you're only nine is awesome!

You love all things sports! You like to watch it, talk about it, play it, and you want to be a professional baseball player when you grow up. Or if that doesn't work out, a professional football player - which will be a little trickier since we're only going to let you play flag football. : )

This year you're really figuring out who you are. You've been reading your Bible and talking more about God. You've even asked about being baptized - I need to look into how they do that at our new church for you. Because that's awesome. You also have a couple good friends and don't seem interested in having a ton of friends, you prefer being selective. You've actually always been like that but now you're old enough to verbalize and make choices that reflect your preferences.

There is one tricky thing we're dealing with right now, and that is your confidence level. Don't worry, it's not that you don't have any, it's that you have too much! We're letting you roll with it right now because it's not a horrible problem to have. But you really think you're the best at every.thing. You're the best soccer player, football player, you run faster, you do math better, you tell funnier jokes, and if you could, you'd drive better. You even put your dishes in the sink better. Because you're the best. One thing that isn't helping our case is that you are pretty good at most things. And people tell you that. Thankfully you have some manners so you give a little nod and tiny smile/smirk to say thanks. With all that confidence you're still on the shy side. It's an interesting combo that seems to be working for you.

Thank you for still letting me know you love me. You make sure to give me a hug before I leave for work, you like me to tuck you in at night, and you always tell me you love me. In fact, last night you said "I love you!! That's the last thing I'm going to say as an eight year old". :) One thing that is slowly changing is that you no longer really hold my hand. But I don't walk home from the bus with you very often anymore because you and Mason like walking home by yourselves, (that's when you used to always hold my hand). Sometimes I let you walk home alone, sometimes I'm still waiting for you at the bus stop because I like it. I think you like it when I'm there too, so it's a good mix that works for both of us.

You're a great kid and I'm thankful I get to be your mama. Now let's not talk about turning 10 until next November, because that one is going to be rough! Deal?
