When I tell people about your fifth birthday party, it feels fake. Almost like I'm talking about someone else's party, not yours. Five is old. You will have started kindergarten before your next birthday comes around. What's that about?! Getting older is pretty cool though. You're really starting to figure things out lately. You totally get how rad it is to have a brother. You take care of him and you laugh when he's being funny. He's the luckiest to have you as his big brother! You get that God is cool. You're still working on the whole concept of how big he is - you ask quite often if he's bigger than a giant. : ) You are starting to have best friends and ask to play with them. In fact, for your birthday party you were very clear on who you wanted to invite - no little kids (except Mason) and no girls (except Ellie, who ended up not being able to make it).
This year is the first time your birthday falls on Thanksgiving day. I love birthdays and want to make sure you feel special on your birthday so this is a tricky one for me. Luckily we're going to the Miller's where I know you'll have fun! And Grandma is even bringing a cake. I think you'll enjoy it this year - it'll be the next time this happens that you might feel a little ripped off. Hopefully you'll always love being with your family, in which case the timing of your birthday is perfect instead of a hassle!
I can't wait to see what this year brings. I image it will bring some of the biggest changes we've seen in a while. You're already showing an interest in learning more. I kind of realized you weren't learning your letters at school, so I decided to start a little one-on-one time with you to work on them (when I asked what we should call that time, you said "Andrew Dyk's School"). My goal was to make it fun and something you look forward to and so far it seems to be working. What is working for sure is that you're learning like crazy! We started the letter J this week and you can recognize all the letters up to J (conveniently!). You also know most of their sounds and can name other words, not just the thing that we made as the craft for that letter. You're smart! I'm excited to see how you do in kindergarten. Even though you're shy, I think you'll find your place and quickly fall in love with it.
